Preface - We originally were going to have four players on game night. My players planned on starting a new party with good alignment. Unfortunately two of them couldn't make it. One in particular canceled thirty minutes before start, YIKES! Fortunately I wasted no time thanks to #NoPrepSupremacy. Normally the players don't like to play with only two players but they are elite level players and they figured they could complete a few rooms in a dungeon without too much trouble. I just printed of a random dungeon from DonJon.com, and the game commenced.

Player Characters:

Jean Var Rouge - Level 1 Human Paladin Lawful Good

Antoine La Flare - Level 1 Human Cleric Lawful Good

10/7/23 Our two heroes have been given a quest from the local mission of the Church of Kratya in Paradiso. A local boy stumbled upon a dungeon whilst playing in the nearby jungle. The church wants to know if it is inhabited and what is inside. They are willing to pay the adventurers one hundred gold per room mapped of the dungeon, the standard rate of the Explorers' Guild. Jean and Antoine, along with a link boy and four hirelings with padded armor and spears, start outside the dungeon and quickly begin to descend down within.

They make a couple of left turns down some hallways. The Paladin is leading in the front using detect evil wherever they go. They check for secret doors but find nothing. Eventually they come to a stuck door in the hallway. Jean uses detect evil and can smell an evil presence coming from beyond the door. Both Jean and Antoine roll to open doors. (Up to three PCs can simultaneously roll to open doors.) They are successful and push the door open. Roll Surprise!

The party wins surprise and gets two segments. They have busted down the door, FBI style and caught a group of six kobolds with their pants down. They are able to wipe out half of the kobolds before they roll for initiative which they proceeded to win. It was a slaughter, bravo to our boys. They map out the first room and find a chest containing twelve thousand copper pieces, a sarcophagus, as well as another door across from the one they entered in. The party didn't want to disturb the dead so they continued to the door.

Another stuck wooden dungeon door, no problem for Antoine. He pushes open the door to a thirty by thirty room. Inside the center of the room is a large green transparent cube. ( It did not have a ten gallon hat or a voice for radio) Surprise is rolled and no one is shocked. The party does not know how to approach this creature or if they can even damage it so they retreat back into the kobold room then out into the hallway and spike the door shut. The gelatinous cube being pretty slow, crept its way towards the party but was unable to engage.

The party continues down the hall and it turns left again facing South. They soon come up to a door facing East. It is stuck but again they are able to open it with no problems. it is a fifty by seventy room with nothing of interest but a worn chain shirt. That's three rooms down, the pay is looking decent.

They leave the room and fallow the hall South till it ends. There is a door facing West but it is locked. The party decides to back tract to another hallway the missed at the beginning and thanks to the map, they can move at five times speed to get there. They fallow the new hallway a short distance and they come to another stuck wooden door. They have a little trouble but no monsters hear them. They open the door to another thirty by thirty room with nothing of interest except for a pile of papers on the floor.

The party still not wanting to face the gelatinous cube and being thiefless, decides they are going to chop down the locked wooden door they found at the end of the long hallways. Before they chop Jean uses detect evil and doesn't smell any. They each chop at the door and are able to knock it down. as the door falls they see a horde of eleven giant rats staring them down. No one is surprised and combat begins. They make quick work of about half the rodents after three rounds of combat. The rats fail their moral check and retreat into a large mouse hole in the wall. They find one thousand copper and one thousand silver scattered around the room and another door to the West.

The door is locked so they decide to chop it down, making a lot more noise but not attracting any monsters again. They go down a c shaped hallway until they come to a stuck door to the North. They have a little trouble getting the door open but they manage. They come to a large room with nothing notable except a spear lodged into a helmet. There is a door to the West and an archway to a room to the East. they decide to go for the door. This time however the door is trapped by a magical Lightning trap and it deals five damage to Jean and Antione.

At this point the party looks at their map, sees six rooms and figures to get whilst the getting is good. They speed back to the entrance and just when they make it past the chain shirt room they walk into an encounter. Three Zombies meandering down the hall singing "Time of the Season".

On a side note the Paladin was confused why he did not detect them earlier from detect evil. Interesting enough zombies alignment are neutral and not evil. Anyway a fight ensues since they are blocking the one exit to the dungeon. The Zombies win initiative and one gets a nasty bite on a hireling and kills him. The party swings and their cleric successfully starts to turn the zombies for six turns. As the zombies walked back the three remaining men at arms poked at the zombies with spears and Jean stabbed with his long sword. it took five of the six turns but they were successful. Antonio was also to get off a cure light wounds on one of the remaining hirelings who took some damage and almost died.

The party was able to to exit the dungeon and buried their fallen hireling. They said a few words and dug a grave for him. The party then heads back to the mission in Paradiso without incident. They were able to successfully map six rooms. They made a copy of the map for them to keep and turned over the original map to the church for six hundred gold pieces. (I did make the party physically copy the map because they had to physically give me one to count)
